【Game Introduction】

Democracy 4 puts you in the role of President/Prime minister, governing the country (choosing its policies, laws, and other actions), both transforming the country as you see fit and trying to retain enough popular support to get re-elected......
Democracy 4 is built on a specially customized neural network designed to simulate the opinions, beliefs, ideas, and biases of thousands of virtual citizens, and is the most advanced political simulation game available. A new vector graphics engine gives the game a more adaptable and concise user interface, and the fourth game in the series adds a host of new features over the past, such as media coverage, coalition government, emergency powers, three-party systems and more sophisticated simulation programs that can deal with inflation, corruption and modern policy ideas, Such as quantitative easing, helicopter money, universal basic income, and policy, covering current political topics such as law enforcement recorders, transgender rights, and a plethora of other content.
Democracy 4 is the ultimate sandbox to test your political thinking. We all think that politicians are a bunch of crap and that we can do a better job running the country ourselves, but are we really? With one eye on the budget, one eye on the polls, and one eye on the terrorist attacks, you find that changing society and staying in power is harder work than you think.
Is legalizing all drugs really a good idea? What about machine guns for the police? Ban abortion? Invest heavily in green energy? Does universal basic income really work? Can you remain elected after halving your pension to pay for the science budget? There's only one game you can find out!

The game was designed without any implicit bias (tricky, but we tried!). So this is by no means a game to lecture you politically or say that your beliefs are wrong. It's a strategy game, not a political protest :D. If you want to turn your country into Ayn Rand's fantasy land, abolishing all public spending and all taxes, you can do so. This may or may not work! Depends on how you handle it. On the other hand, if you want to nationalise the railways, the energy companies, the water companies, put a cap on the pay of corporate executives, ban second home ownership and introduce a universal income, you can do the same. What the game tries to do is simulate the short - and long-term * likely * effects of whatever action you take.
Since the mod-makers have enthusiastically supported previous generations of the series, we are working hard to make Democracy 4 as mod-friendly as possible, and the support of Steam Workshop will make it very easy to select and install mods. All of our data is ultimately saved as a text file that you can edit yourself, so if you think our analysis of the correlation between car tax and car usage is wrong (for example), you can easily edit it and share your changes with other players.
Ultimately, the game of Democracy 4 is not about simply winning elections, but about governing. Losing an election is just the end (unless you're assassinated), and the real challenge of the game is whether you can build a country you can be proud of. I hope you enjoyed the attempt. :D
